Discussion Board Moderation

As soon as MKDoc discussion boards are enabled for a site, creating a discussion forum is simply a matter of adding a discussion component to a document, then giving it a title, a description and picking an IMAP folder-name.

The IMAP folder name

An MKDoc site can support any number of discussion boards, a document itself can contain more than one board – Boards can be moved or copied to other documents just like other MKDoc components.

This means that a single forum can even live in two different documents; messages posted to one document will then appear in both – As long as the IMAP folder name is the same for both discussion boards.

So when creating a discussion board, you can either pick a new IMAP folder name or reuse an existing one that may already contain messages.

Moderation

Sometimes it's necessary to remove a message from a discussion board because of inappropriate content or for other reasons such as simply clearing out old material. MKDoc supports the standard IMAP protocol for administrators to manipulate all messages in one place.

To moderate messages, the administrator needs to connect to the server using an IMAP client such as Mozilla Mail, Microsoft Outlook or any one of many other mail clients that support the IMAP protocol. Connecting to the server is normally just a matter of entering a servername, username and password in a new account wizard.

A large MKDoc site can contain many thousands of messages in many folders, so finding and deleting messages containing particular words or posts older than a certain date is easy so long as you use the search capabilities of the IMAP client to do the hard work for you.

Tip: Some mail clients don't actually remove messages when you hit Delete, they just mark them as deleted temporarily. To get rid of these messages permanently, look for a button to "synchronise", "flush" or "compact" the folder.
